Allergic Reactions- Diverse And deadly
I shudder to think of allergic reactions that can occur when a person inadvertently comes across an allergen. One day my cousin and I went to a restaurant for a treat. The tables were placed so closely to each other that we could easily overhear the conversation in the next table. A middle-aged lady was seated with a teenager whom we assumed was her son. The waiter was taking their orders and they ordered French fries along with other items. The mother repeatedly asked the waiter if any of them contained any fish. The waiter shook his head. When the food arrived, she again called the waiter and enquired if he was sure none of the items contained fish. The waiter politely said “No Madamâ€. Then the duo started eating. After some time, the boy started scratching his face. His face grew red and the mother panicked. She shouted out for help and asked for an ambulance. Meanwhile rashes developed on his face. The lady called the waiter and yelled at him that he had indeed brought something which contained fish in spite of her careful instructions. The confused waiter called the cook who informed that the French fries the boy ate had been fried in the oil which had been used to fry cod fish previously. We felt sorry for the poor boy who had difficulty in breathing. The lady was sobbing when she told the waiter that her son was allergic to fish. Finally the ambulance came and took the boy to the hospital. I do not know what happened to the boy later. But I hope that he is alright.
This incident taught me not to take allergies and allergic reactions easily. I also came to know that allergies can develop at any age and those allergens which had agreed well so long could suddenly turn allergic as well. Benadryl cream and Benadryl capsule can take care of mild symptoms while others require immediate medical treatment. Symptoms including tongue swelling could block the breathing passage. So it is definitely better to completely avoid the allergen.
