Quit Smoking Pill Report

Jan 28th, 2010

My wife and I quit smoking together around the middle of September last year. We decided to use the quit smoking pills to give us the best chance of success. Here in Canada this particular stop smoking aid is called Champix, but its apparently sold under different brand names elsewhere.

The important thing is the active ingredient and what it does. The chemical is varenicline tartrate and it is supposed to work by blocking the receptors in the brain that nicotine attaches to. In other words, the champix occupies the receptor and the nicotine has nothing to attach to and flushes right out.

We chose the stop smoking pills because many of our die-hard-smoking friends had quit smoking by using them. In fact, I haven’t heard of a single failure when people have gone through the whole program. That takes about three months.

So how did it work for us? Great. There were no physical cravings, and we didn’t have the bitchiness with each other that we went through with previous attempts to quit smoking for good. I have to say, the whole thing has been pretty easy.

The only drawback with the whole process was the same one you will find with any stop smoking program: it won’t make you want to quit deep down inside. Maybe this wouldn’t be a problem if you stop smoking by hypnosis, but that is the only exception as far as I can see.

This is probably why a lot of people go back to smoking. There are lots of ways to quit smoking, but you have to want it. Most of us want to quit in some ways but not in others. What will I do without my buddy?? That’s why smoking is an addiction, in fact its the very definition of what an addiction is.

What’s the bottom line with stop smoking pills? So far, they’ve worked for us and we had absolutely no bumps or rough spots. If anyone you know is considering giving up the butts, this is the product to recommend. After fifty years of smoking I never thought I’d quit. But I did. If it worked for me it will work for almost anyone.
