A Guide to Choosing an Ergonomic Chair

More and more people are working at a desk these days due to so many technological advances in recent years. All this sitting around can put a real strain on your body, believe it or not, and that’s why you need to pay attention to the chair you’re sitting in. This is where an ergonomic chair can really help you out, because it is designed to support your body in ideal alignment and relieve the strain on your muscles and spine.

Essential features of an ergonomic chair include the ability to adjust the height of the chair so that your thighs are parallel to the floor when you’re sitting. You should also be able to tilt the seat so it’s perfectly comfortable for your particular body.

The back rest must also be adjustable, both in terms of its height and its angle. This is key to proper lumbar support. As well, the armrests should be fully adjustable so that your arms are at a right angle to the floor as you’re typing or using the mouse.

You will also need to make sure that your chair is durable and constructed from high grade materials. Your ergonomic chair is sure to get a lot of use and you want to make sure it lasts you for a long time, especially if you’re paying a lot of money for it. Look for quality workmanship in everything from the casters at the bottom to the upholstery.

Some of the best ergonomic chairs are made by a company called Herman Miller. Their Aeron chair, for example, features an award winning design that quite literally molds to your body. The mesh fabric of the back and seat offers surprising comfort while allowing for optimal air flow and no hot, sweaty regions on your body.

There are many chairs that claim to be ergonomically designed, but as with anything, some of them are much better than others. So it’s really important that you spend some time learning about the features of a good ergonomic chair and what you should be looking for. The fact is, even just a regular high end office chair will provide superior ergonomics to a poorly designed, so-called ergonomic chair.
