Are Throat Infections Contagious?

These days, more and more people are becoming victims of many types of throat infections. These diseases are usually caused by a number of bacteria or viruses that enter our system and cause such a reaction to our body. Most throat infections begin with having a sore throat. This sore throat is not only due to colds or any other bacterial infection, but it can also be a result of irritants such as smoke, fumes and dusts. These infections usually last for days and even weeks, which is why it is best for us to have it examined by a doctor in order for proper and immediate attention to be given. But why are the cases of throat infection ballooning nowadays? Are throat infections contagious? If yes, then what are the ways they can be passed from one person to another?

As most of us already know, these throat infections are considered to be very contagious or infectious. This means that this type of illness can be transmitted from one person or carrier to another. Since the causative agents of these throat infections are very minute, they can actually travel through tiny droplets and secretions from our mouth and nose. These secretions may be in the form of saliva or mucus. Whenever an infected individual coughs or sneezes, countless and tiny particles of saliva are ejected from the mouth or nose and are flown to the air. These particles are sometimes invisible to the naked eye and are also quite unnoticeable. However, despite being very minute or small, these particles can still carry countless bacteria or viruses coming from the mouth or throat of an infected person. Once these particles are inhaled, it will now target the body and affect the system of another person. This is the reason why many people are now suffering from the symptoms of having throat infections.

Learning all these things does not only make us aware of how these bacteria and viruses are transmitted from one person to another. This will also help in pushing us to become more hygienic in taking care of ourselves especially when we are under attack from these pathogens. This also shows how important it is for us to cover our mouths and noses whenever we sneeze or cough, especially in public. Covering our mouths will actually help in preventing the spread of these bacteria and viruses in the air. Experts have also mentioned that particles will usually stay floating on air for at least 15 seconds. Because of this, it makes a lot of people susceptible in this kind of infection.

Just like what is mentioned above, proper hygiene is also needed such as the regular washing of hands in order to avoid passing the disease from the different things that we touch. These simple ways can already help us lessen the number of throat infection cases. If these essential things are religiously done, then we can assure that throat infection cases will surely decrease no matter how contagious they might be.
