Have you been to a Mediterranean basin like Greece, Spain, or Morocco? Or have you at least tried any Mediterranean meal? What can you say about it? Did you know that these foods have so much to offer and also considered a living culture? Today I will discuss regarding about med diet and its different benefits.

Mediterranean diet is basically a common food preparation of people who live on those countries listed above. This is a well known diet associated by many health benefits, and even weight loss. This diet has been there for decades, and it has been a culture for some. There are strict followers who practice an orthodox Mediterranean lifestyle. A med diet includes an active lifestyle as well.

Mediterranean food may consist of fresh vegetables, fruits, legumes, fish meat, strict no trans fat meat, whole grains, dairy products, olive oils, wines preferably red wines, absolutely no preservatives or processed foods. They are prepared in different ways and in different recipes. Most of them are savory and with exquisite taste.

The benefits of Med Diet

Olive oil is one main component of med diet that offers good benefits by decreasing total cholesterol level and LDL, while increasing HDL cholesterol. Olive oil is also a good source of antioxidants which includes vitamin E. A good serving would be 8 to 10 daily.

Fish oils or rather fish fats found in salmon are quite high in omega 3 fatty acids, a polyunsaturated fat which can also lower cholesterol. As we all know this fatty one is highly associated with decrease risk for heart disease.

Fruits and vegetables contain natural fibers and a lot of antioxidants. This is good for maintaining a healthy body and good bowel movement for fiber, also this can aid you in your weight loss issues for it helps to decrease weight. Antioxidants are good to combat against cancer and other malignancies.

Lastly the wine which is included in the diet can offer you a rich source of flavonoid phenolics, an antioxidant which protects against heart diseases basically by increasing HDL cholesterol and prevents blood clotting as well.
