The importance of prenatal nutrition is very serious, for both you and your baby. That is why you must do your homework before selecting a prenatal vitamin. You should be looking for a natural, science based formula that will offer you and your baby the most gentle, healthy and supporting prenatal nutrition.

You should be looking for a multivitamin that will provide the proper levels of all essential vitamins and minerals for pregnant and nursing mothers. The product should also be gentle on the sensitive gastro intestinal tracts, and be a certified name brand. You should be looking for product cleanliness and purity. Which means the vitamins should not have a lot of filler and non essential ingredients as product purity is critical to ensuring the healthy development of your new baby.

There has been a lot of talk about whether or not DHA is safe for infants and pregnant women. The answer is yes as long as it meets a few requirements. The DHA or docosahexaenoic  acid (DHA) should be vegetable based and definitely CAN NOT be sourced from fish oil or other brand products. Any DHA is that approved for infant formulas in the US will meet these requirements but you should always check. DHA is proven to enhance brain activity and eye health, which is crucial during this highly developmental time in their life.

Pregnancy is a very special time in life and the benefits of proper nutrition can not be stressed nearly enough as you can not cleanse your body while you are pregnant or nursing. To maintain optimal health, and ensure the best for you child, you must do your research before taking and DHA or prenatal vitamins while you are pregnant or nursing. Buy only trusted brands and look for organic or natural products and stay away from the things you would typically find at conventional pharmacies. Most important and above all consult and trust your doctor.
