Nowadays, there are a lot of diet plans available that aim at losing weight fast. However, only some of these plans are actually proven effective. One of the most sought after diet regimens these days is none other than the cabbage soup diet. The cabbage soup diet is a 7-day meal plan that is designed in order to cut off weight fast. This is not considered a long term weight loss solution, but rather known to be efficient over the short term. For us to know more about this diet plan; here are some of the cabbage soup diet recipe variations.

Advantages of a Soup diet

There are actually a lot of advantages or pros in using the cabbage soup diet. Aside from effectively causing fast weight loss, this plan is also effective in preventing certain types of cancer. This is due to the presence of vegetables that belong to the Brassica family such as the cabbage, cauliflower, and the broccoli. This change in eating habits is also very healthy and the soup is also enjoyed by a lot of certified users of the 7-day program.

Disadvantages of the Cabbage Soup Diet

If there are advantages to eating soup, unfortunately, there are also disadvantages. One of the most common cons in having this diet is that some people also complain that the cabbage soup is too bland. Aside from this, increase flatulence or gas production in the GIT is also possible to happen. In addition, staying loyal to this diet plan takes a lot of determination and will power. Some people also claim that the diet plan lacks good nutrition and can contain high contents of salt. Nevertheless, a lot of people are still interested in the benefits of having a cabbage soup diet.

Cabbage Soup Recipe Ingredients

In cooking the cabbage soup, there are actually a lot of variations on how this meal is prepared. However, some of the common ingredients in making the soup includes 6 large onions, 2 green peppers, a can or two of tomatoes (whole or diced), a bunch of celery, half head of cabbage, a pack of onion soup mix, a cube or two of bouillon soup (can be optional) and seasonings to taste such as salt pepper, parsley, garlic powder, curry and a lot more. Other recipes could also add sliced carrots and diagonally sliced half a pound of green beans. Some even add half a cup of balsamic vinegar, but this is said to be optional.

Steps in Cooking Cabbage Soup

There are different ways on how to cook cabbage soup, but in general, all the vegetables are placed together in a big pot filled with water. This mixture must then be boiled in addition to the soup mix if desired. Boiling must be done for 10 minutes with the lid covered. Once done, the heat must be reduced and simmer in order to soften the vegetables. We can then add in black pepper as well as some of the chopped herbs (some can also be used for garnishing).

Weekly Diet Plan

In using the cabbage soup diet plan, there is actually one thing that we need to remember. We can eat all the soup that we want and drink all the non-caloric drinks that we desire in addition only to some of the specified foods to be eaten per day. Each day has a specified type of foods that can be eaten. The list of these foods is written below.

• Day 1 – Homemade cabbage soup + any other types of fruits except bananas
• Day 2 – Homemade cabbage soup + other vegetables + baked potato (can be added with butter for dinner). Potatoes are off-limits on other days.
• Day 3 – Homemade cabbage soup + other fruits and vegetables
• Day 4 – Homemade cabbage soup + not more than 6 bananas and fat-free milk
• Day 5 – Homemade cabbage soup + 6 tomatoes and up to 450 grams of meat or fish
• Day 6 – Homemade cabbage soup + beef meat and vegetables
• Day 7 – Homemade cabbage soup + brown rice + pure fruit juice + vegetables

These are basically the specified foods to be eaten for one week or seven days. Even just by finishing a week of this diet plan, effects can already be seen in the body. However, proper exercise can also be added in order to hasten the loss of weight. Aside from this, bread, carbonated drinks and alcohol must be excluded from the plan in order for its benefits to set in. Following this diet plan can be very difficult. This is the reason why determination and willpower are needed in order to stay on course with the planned program. Nevertheless, seeing the results as fast as 7 days can be very worthwhile to have.
