I think it goes without saying, most people do not want to lose weight slowly. The simple truth is, weight lost slowly is much more likely to stay off in the long run, but it’s still difficult to keep ourselves motivated when we don’t see the progress happening fast enough. Unfortunately, this whole idea of needing results to keep us on our diet is based on us doing something we don’t like (dieting) for as little time as possible before we quit and return to our old way of eating.
Somewhat scientific studies have been done that say weight loss tips encouraging rapid reductions in fat aren’t successful in the long run. However, we need to not only look at how people lost weight but what their mindset is while doing it. People who are looking to lose weight quickly are people who hate eating healthy. When you hate doing something, you may hold your nose and do it, but once you reach your goal you’re going to return to your old way of doing things, ie. eating unhealthy foods. So, you see, the problem wasn’t that the person lost the weight quickly, it’s that they hate eating properly.
I can’t do anything about your attitude towards losing weight, but I can give you the best advice for getting it off quickly. The truth is, if you want to lose weight, you have to do one of two things: 1) eat fewer calories or 2) burn more calories. Want to lose it REALLY fast? Do BOTH!
Let’s look at this idea of eating few calories a bit deeper. Most of the time, when people do this, they’ll continue to consume the same types of food, but simply try to eat less of them. That leaves them feeling hungry and usually breeds a negative attitude towards the whole process. So, what can you do to avoid this? Simply change the foods you’re eating to something with more volume for the same calories. This is why a lot of people suggest cutting fat out of your diet, it is a very calorie dense food which has a high caloric cost to feeling full.
Let’s look at two ends of the spectrum: 200 calories of bacon equals about 34 grams while 200 calories of celery equals over 1400 grams. Which one is going to leave you feeling more full? Of course, there is no comparison between the wonderful taste of bacon and the rather bland taste of celery. For this reason, you may want to consider something between those two items, such as smoked turkey breast. 200 calories of smoked turkey breast is about 200 grams. That means you can eat you can eat about 6 times as much turkey as you can bacon. Now you can see how a reduced calorie diet can help you lose weight without leaving you feeling hungry.
