Colon hydrotherapy or more commonly known as colon irrigation is fast becoming a favorite treatment or management in cleaning out the colon. More and more people are resorting to the use of this intervention in order to experience its countless befits. However, just like any other medical procedures, colon irrigation could still cause us some untoward side effects. This is the reason why it is very important for us to be aware of the different colon hydrotherapy risks before we submit ourselves into such kind of procedure. Below are some of the facts pertaining to colon irrigation as well as its benefits and known health risks.

What are the benefits and uses of colon hydrotherapy? Colon hydrotherapy is a procedure wherein the wastes and other toxins in the body via the colon are removed through the introduction of water by way of the rectum. As we all know, feces formed inside our colon, which is mean to be released from the body through the anus. However, some problems such as constipation hinder our colon from expelling these wastes out of our system. This can lead to fecal decomposition, which in turn can lead to the formation of different toxins that can eventually enter our bloodstream causing different negative reactions. But with the use of the colon irrigation, these wastes are effectively removed from the body thus causing better body functioning. This type of procedure is actually similar to enemas since a tube if inserted in the rectum as a passage way for the water as well as the wastes as they are expelled from the colon.

What are the benefits of colon irrigation? Colon irrigation is said to be very effective in restoring the normal functioning of the colon, expelling parasites and giving back the normal peristaltic movement of the intestine. In addition to these, weight reduction and better mental functioning could also be attained from regular use of this procedure.

What are the colon hydrotherapy risks? Since the benefits of this procedure has not yet been proven scientifically, risks could definitely be expected from this type of procedure. Some of the most common or possible risks that could be attained from this procedure are infection and over hydration. Infection is possible since colon irrigation requires the insertion of a foreign material into the rectum. Unsterile performance of the procedure can put us all at high risk for infection. In addition to these, repeated insertion of the tube into the rectum can also cause trauma or injury in the area. Over hydration could also be experienced since introducing too mush fluids via the rectum can lead to the water build up in the lungs which can also put us at risk for heart failure. Some of the less severe side effects include; nausea, vomiting and fluid imbalances. These are the different things that we need to know about the popular procedure called colon hydrotherapy or colon irrigation.
