A smoothie maker is an increasingly common item in many kitchens today, as people have tried delicious fruit smoothies in health food stores and restaurants, and want to make their own. Fruit smoothies make great healthy breakfast or afternoon snacks, and can be used as a part of a daily health program or a diet.
Smoothies are usually made with fruits and berries, yogurt, water and other natural ingredients. You can use almost any fruits to make a smoothie. One of the best things about smoothie blenders is that you can experiment at home and create your own healthy and nutritious concoctions. Some of the most popular fruits, used in commercial products and in the smooth drinks you get in health food stores, are bananas (for sweetness and for their smooth consistency), oranges, papayas, pineapples and berries such as strawberries or blueberries. However, the choices are unlimited and you can pick any fruits or berries you like, or any that are recommended in the variety of books written about fruit smoothies.
The yogurt used in most blends is natural yogurt, although you can experiment with flavored yogurts too. Depending on how thick you like your drinks, you can add a little water into the mixture, or try fruit juices that complement your choice of ingredients. Orange, apple and pineapple juices are all good options. Some people add honey or even maple syrup for sweetness if the fruits are not sweet enough. For healthy and nutritious drinks, especially to drink after exercising, you can try adding flax seeds or other seeds that contain protein and a variety of vitamins and minerals.
If you get very creative, try making tropical smoothies with coconut milk, pineapples, papayas, mangos and other exotic fruits. Whatever your favorite fruit or berry, you can make up a smoothie with it.
