Diet For Dummies

I thought I’d write a few words down on how to diet properly and not fall into one of the many fad diets around that are just about making money. Low carb, low fat, detox diets, no dairy and all sorts of other crazy things jump to mind. For me, that’s just ridiculous. For most people it is simply too overwhelming. So I’ll break down here in diet for dummies.

Instead of thinking in terms of dieting, you should think in terms of just eating in a healthy manner. I’ll tell you why this is better. Diets are often just a fad or for a short term goal. ‘I need to lose X kgs for this persons wedding’ or something along the line of that. So you go online and you find the latest Opera diet. You eat beetroot and almonds for 8 weeks and lose your goal weight. Then what happens? One week after the wedding the weight is piling back on and Type II Diabetes is knocking on your door. This is not the way to live!

Eating should be an enjoyable occasion, you should enjoy your food. Living of salads (unless you really like salads) is not going to work long term. Your willpower will cave in and you will binge, feeling bad you go back onto the salad diet. Do you think your body likes this, let alone your pallet?

Instead of doing this, I recommend dieting for dummies which is… drumroll please… eating normally 😮

Keep healthy choices in you diet. Stick to using as much unprocessed food as possible. For example, dinner could be a yummy home made beef stew or hamburgers on the BBQ in an open sandwich. Don’t forget the old meat and 3 veggies for when you are in a hurry.

On occasion have a couple slices of pizza (not the whole thing) or your other weak food. Try to keep a well balanced diet overall.
