Elliptical Machines And Treadmills – Time Wasters

Many people will probably be shocked to read the above title. But this is actually a fact. Elliptical machines and treadmills are considered as one of the least effective methods of working out. Why are these two methods downright awful? Here are five good reasons.

1. These two methods do not provide good results. Why would you bother wasting time doing elliptical or treadmill workouts when you can be spending your time doing other more interesting forms of training that can effectively burn fat and stimulate your metabolism greater? One great home workout program that you can try out is the Power 90 program from Team Beachbody, which provides high intensity workouts for better results. It is a great program for beginners and ex-couch potatoes.

2. Elliptical machines and treadmills are downright expensive. They are truly a waste of money if you want to work out in your home. Rather than spend your money on these machines, you can be spending your hard earned cash on better things for home workouts that actually work better too. If the above Power 90 program is too easy for you, you can invest your money in the P90X program instead.

3. There have been several studies that show that treadmill running is even less effective than actual outdoor running, many factors contribute to this such as stride abnormalities on treadmills compared to natural running, and slightly less caloric burn compared to outdoor running. One point to note on outdoor running, jogging aimlessly is also not recommended. It is much better for you to vary the intensity of your walking and running or sprinting for a more effective workout.

4. Doing steady state exercise (that doesn’t require concentration) while reading the papers or watching TV does not connect the mind and body, which results in a poor results compared to workouts that require focused attention.

5. Elliptical machines and treadmills are downright boring!

So instead of doing mind-numbing workouts on your machines, get yourself into a good workout program that provides high intensity routines that can effectively burn more fat and get your metabolism higher.
