Does this sound familiar? When your head touches the pillow each night often times your mind has a hard time slowing down to the speed of your body. While we are physically exhausted our minds can be working hard on trying to mentally work through the challenges of the day or prepare strategies to deal with tomorrow. What this boils down to is a restless sleep – at best. Follow these three steps to ensure a better sleep tonight.
Step #1 – Perform a short yoga video 20 minutes before bed.
My absolute favorite is PM Yoga. It’s designed to either be done at the end of the workday or sometime in the evening. I have found that if I do it right before I go to bed it is better than taking a PM Tylenol – not to mention much safer.
Step #2 – Create a “tomorrow box”.
Keep a small box by your bedside. A 3×5 index card box will do. In it you will keep all of the little nagging buggers that keep popping in your head as you prepare for bed. Write them down on 3×5 cards and close the box. Commit to putting them to “tomorrow”. Label the box “Do not open until tomorrow.”
Step #3 – Keep the room cool in the winter and even cooler in the summer.
Studies have shown that we enjoy a deeper and more peaceful sleep when the room is nice and cool.
Bonus Tip: While you are keeping it cool you will probably want to grab a pair of your coziest socks. Cold feet make it harder to get to sleep.
Implemented these three steps and still better sleep is only a dream? Then it might be time for a new mattress. The visco elastic memory foam mattress is incredibly popular and for good reason. No matter which type of mattress you choose be sure to do your research before you buy.
