Burping is something that all of us, without a doubt, have already experienced. Most of us think that burping only occurs after eating a very large or heavy meal, but actually this could also be due to other factors. This is indeed true when it comes to excessive burping conditions. That is why in order for us to avoid this; we should be knowledgeable of the different excessive burping causes.
What is a burp?
First of all, what is the definition of burp or burping? Burping can be described as the ejection of gas that has accumulated in the gut through our mouth. Burping is otherwise known as belching and this particular condition doesn’t necessarily imply something serious with our health. However, constant burping could be quite embarrassing especially when we are in public places. So in order for us to avoid this, let us try to discuss some of the most common causes of excessive belching.
What are the causes of burping?
One of these causative factors include food allergy. This may sound absurd but burping continuously can be a result of an allergic reaction from a certain type of food item. Such intolerance to food can cause increase production of gas in the stomach thus causing excessive burping.
Another common cause of burping is due to having wrong eating habits. Inconsistent eating periods as well as overeating could definitely lead to a much serious burping fiasco. In addition to this, eating too much spicy and oily food could also add to the severity of burping. It can even include stomach problems such as stomach ache. Aside from this, GERD or gastroesophageal reflux can also be a main culprit in excessive burping. In fact, this acid reflux disease pushes the acid from the stomach to the esophagus causing heartburn and continuous burping.
Excessive burping is likewise very common among pregnant women. As we can see, pregnant women, most especially those in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, do have greater pressure in the abdomen due to the increasing size of fetus inside their wombs. Because of this, it creates a huge pressure to the stomach which in return causes bloating, nauseas and of course, excessive burping. In addition to this, pregnant women also have higher progesterone levels in their body. This hormone acts in relaxing the muscle tissue thus maintaining pregnancy for 9 months. However, this hormone also affects the tissues or the muscles of the digestive system, which then relaxes leading to more gas ejection through burping.
What can I do to reduce burping?
If you want to decrease the incidence of excessive burping, you can try to alter your food intake since carbonated drinks as well as the oily and spicy foods increase the occurrence of belching. These are just some of the causes or reasons why we sometimes encounter excessive burping.
You can also try some of the gas relief and/or probiotics preparations
that are available.
If the cause of excessive burping is anxiety reactions, better look for ways to channel the anxiety away. Try frequent walking or shaking of the hands until a relaxed state is achieved. Meditation, guided imagery and biofeedback can also be opted for anxiety caused burping.
