Finding the Right Tennis Elbow Strap

A tennis elbow strap is very useful for a short-term relief and for protection against further injury. Tennis elbow is an injury where the tendons located in the outer part of the elbow are inflamed or degraded due to overexertion, too much stress in the muscles and repetition of movements. The symptoms include pain in the outer part of the elbow that often radiates down the forearm, pain when you try to flex or straighten your arms and pain when you try to grip, grasp, and twist of lift something.

The tendons have the ability to heal but due to too much stress and repetitive movements without getting enough rest, it becomes weaker until it cannot heal itself anymore. Thus, you have to avoid doing the activities that causes your tennis elbow. If there’s a need for you to go on with a certain activity, it is important that you rest your arm, treat it with a cold compress, elevate your arm by keeping higher than the level of your chest and avoid straining the affected muscles as much as possible.

Using an elbow clasp may be of great help to you while doing simple tasks and to prevent injury while doing repetitive movements. This article features three different elbow straps by different manufacturers.

The first one is McDavid tennis elbow strap. It is designed primarily as a protection against tendonitis, bursitis, sprains and strains. Tendonitis includes tennis elbow and golfers elbow. It is has a universal size that will fit any size. It has an adjustable neoprene and Velcro cinch strap. This will guarantee a perfect fit with less restriction to the blood flow. It applies pressure on the affected tendons to relieve pain.

The second elbow clasp is Hely-Weber tennis elbow strap with pressure pad. Its material is composed of 1/8’ neoprene with two-sided nylon outer covering.  The unique variable tension strap compacts a padding that provides relief to the injured elbow.  The product is made with sizes from extra small to extra large, each with corresponding forearm circumference. The only color available for this product is black.

The last product features is the Aircast Pnuematic Armband tennis elbow strap. This product gives emphasis on its aircell technology attribute. This gives more pressure on the affected muscles and less constriction on the arm to allow an even blood flow. The size fits most adults in an inelastic band material with foam lining.

You need to remember that straps are nothing more than a short term solution and if you really want to get rid of your pain you should consider dealing with the cause of your problem and use tennis elbow exercises to correct it once and for all.

A tennis elbow strap may provide compression and not immobilization. You should still be able to move your elbow without restriction. Some people don’t wear this straps or braces because they want real solutions to prevent injury by having the right form, exercises, rest and diet.
