Healthy looking skin doesn’t just happen; it takes a little effort and attention. Skincare can be narrowed down to four basic steps, which include cleansing, exfoliating, using a skin moisturizer, and wearing sunscreen.
Cleanse
The first step in good skin care is the cleansing step. What type of cleanser you use should be based on the type of skin that you have. For example, use gentler cleansers for dry skin. Most dermatologists recommend that soap should not be used on your face. They are too harsh and will dry out your skin.
You only need to cleanse your face once a day. Usually this would be done at night to remove the makeup, dirt and grime that accumulate on your face during the day. In the morning, you can just rinse your face with water to freshen it. When you wash, avoid hot water since it tends to dry out your skin.
Exfoliate
It has been estimated that this step is the one that is ignored the most often. However, exfoliating your skin is important, especially as you age. As your skin ages, the cells do not slough off and replenish themselves and easily or as quickly as they did when you were younger. This gives you a dull, lack-luster look to your skin. Exfoliate at least once a week with either a facial scrub or a facial peel.
Moisturize
The third step is to use a good skin moisturizer. As with the cleanser, it is important to find one that works best for your skin. Moisturizer will not only add moisture to your skin, but it also seals in your body’s own natural moisture.
Wear Sunscreen
The fact is that the most damage to your skin comes from the sun. You can buy makeup that contains sunscreen if you like. Look for products that contain an SPF rating of 15.
