Get A Full Head Of Hair With Hair Transplants

If you ask men what is their most important health issues you will find that hair loss and balding ranks up near the top.  This just goes to show how important our looks are to our self-esteem.  There is really very little benefit to our overall health if we get hair growing in a bald spot so a man can have a full head of hair; but patients are willing to spend thousands of dollars to get the latest hair transplantation surgery performed.  If you feel the need to get back your youthful look then this is probably the procedure you need.

Hair transplants are effective because of how they treat the cause of baldness.  For about 95% of men, hair loss is associated with a medical condition known as Androgenic Alopecia.  This is a genetic condition which means if premature balding runs in your family then the chances of you losing hair are greater than someone who’s ancestors kept their hair.  The mechanism for the loss is not fully understood but it appears as though a hormonal substance known as DHT is the culprit.  For some reason, this DHT will bond to hair follicles in certain areas of the scalp and cause them to stop producing hair shaft material.  This process can be slowed down by the application of certain drugs but once the hair follicles is rendered useless it really can not be brought back to life.  The only option is to transplant living, healthy follicles into the bald spot.

The cost of hair transplants is based on two factors.  The first, of course, is the size of the bald spot to be treated.  It goes without saying that the larger the hair loss area the more individual hair follicular units will need to be replaced.

The second factor is the per transplanted unit price.  This ranges from $3 to $7 per graft in the US.  This part of the equation is often times negotiable especially in tough economic times like these in which less people are spending money on elective surgeries.  Visit a couple of hair clinics in your area and see what kind of a deal you can strike.  You may be surprised at how affordable a full head of hair can be.
