How Expensive Is Hair Restoration

The true cost of a hair restoration procedure is based on a lot of factors.  Depending on which of these factors come into play, the cost of the hair replacement surgery can vary dramatically and these possibilities should be taken in to account before you sign any type of an agreement with a cosmetic surgeon or hair loss clinic.

Of course, the bigger factor for hair restoration costs is the size of the balding area that is going to be treated.  It really goes without saying that if you only have a small patch at the crown then the procedure will be much less expensive than if you are bald over the entire top of your head.  One of the ways the surgical procedure is costed out is by charging per implanted hair unit.  The larger the area to be treated the greater the cost.

Another factor is the geographical location in which the procedure is performed.  Depending on whether you are in a big city or small, on a coast or the heartland, or near an entertainment center such as LA or New York, the cost for the same procedure can be two or three times more in one area than another.  It is important that you check out the prices in various locations before deciding on a particular clinic.

Taking these sorts of factors into account you can expect to be charged between $3 and $7 per implant unit.  Depending on the square centimeter size of the balding area you can assume you will need anywhere from 500 to a few thousand individual units transplanted.  This gives a wide cost estimate but it is harder to get closer because everyone’s hair loss is different.

This does not address hair restoration for women.  The charges for females are usually more because of the nature of the hair loss compared to a man’s.  Men usually lose hair at the hair line, top of the head, and crown.  This leaves a great area of hair growth at the posterior area of the scalp to use for donation hair units.  Women, on the other hand, usually experience thinning hair over their entire scalp, thus making the harvesting of the hair units much more difficult and more expensive.

With these facts in mind, be sure to look at all cost factors before you decide to have hair restoration surgery.
