The Necessary Hemorrhoid Treatment Options

There are millions of people in the world that suffer from a condition called Hemorrhoids. It is very common and unless you have done a little research or gone to the doctor you may have it and not even know it. Hemorrhoids start as a result of several factors and the result is swelling of the veins around the anus. There is significant pain or itching or both associated with hemorrhoidal tissue and there are several reasons for this. One is heredity another is sitting for prolonged periods of time. Alcohol and poor diet also have a big impact on whether or not you get hemorrhoids. Fiber is something that many people lack and it is an important nutrient to have to help prevent the onset of hemorrhoids. Both internal and external hemorrhoids are very treatable if action is taken. If left alone then it can turn into a serious issue in which surgery can be the only option.

When you have to resort to hemorrhoid treatments then there are several options to consider. First you need to find out if you have external hemorrhoids or internal. Internal hemorrhoid treatment can be accomplished by a procedure called rubber band ligation. The doctor places a tiny rubber band on the hemorrhoidal tissue cutting off its circulation. The tissue eventually falls off after a couple of days. There are many other options as well including surgery as a last resort. External hemorrhoids are curable by cremes or or wipes that contain witch hazel. Witch hazel decreases swelling of the hemorrhoid tissue allowing the hemorrhoid to shrink. Corticosteroids can be used to contain the itching and pain that goes with it.

The first thing you do if you suspect you have a hemorrhoid is to go to a doctor and get it looked at. Then he will probably prescribe you a steroid creme for the itching and tucks pads with witch hazel for the swelling. After a week or two the swelling should go down. The main things to remember in trying to prevent and cure hemorrhoids are the following. Make sure you drink plenty of water, eat a fiber rich diet, drink alcohol sparingly, do not sit for extended periods of time without getting up and walking to keep circulation going. Last but not least be sure to avoid straining when having a bowel movement.
