How Fast does Hair Grow per Week?

When talking about hair, no doubt that girls have a lot to say about it but in this generation, men also can do some inputs. Today, the hair is perceived not just a part of the body but as an accessory. Men and women color their hair or add some eye catching hair designs on it in order to match it up with their outfit. One question that is frequently asked about hair is how fast does hair grow per week?

There are a lot of hairs in the body. It can be seen in the head, on the chin, under the armpits, on both upper and lower extremities, on the chest and even on the private area. In short, the human body is covered with hair. The most exciting hair in the body is the hair on top of the head. It is the most fashionable hair in the body and say, the most taken cared of.

The hair on top of the head is not just a hair. It can be a reflection of who the person is and can be an instrument that can enhance the beauty of a person. It can be said that the hair is a reflection of the person because the way it is arranged, designed and taken care of shows the attitude of the person and how the person cares for him/herself. For example, seeing a man with a long and unfix hair on the street could give an impression that the man is not responsible, tidy and wild. If to compare with a man with a shiny and fixed hair, it can denote that that man is formal, responsible and somewhat conservative. For girls, those with short, sexy and angled hair can give the impression that this girl is wild, friendly, and adventurous while for girls with long hair which are tied in a pony tail can give the impression that this girl is conservative and formal. Of course, the hair just gives a wild and general impression of the person and does not “truly” define that person.

It can be said that the hair can enhance the beauty of the person. This is true. A hair that is well colored, well polished and well angled can enhance the face of the person. It can make the eyes glow or can magnify the best asset of the person. People with round face can make an angle out of their face by having a short and angled hair. Short hair can also emphasize a long neck of a model. On the other hand, long hair can give focus of the face which works well for those with small face. A lighter hair color can make the person appear fairer than he/she is while a blonde who dyed her/his hair with a black one can totally change the person’s look.

The hair is not just for beauty aspect. It also has some important functions and one of which is that it protects human beings from UV rays of the sun. It is also a source of heat insulation and cooling. The sweat in the head is trapped by the hair and when the sun directly hits the hair, the trapped sweat will evaporate thus making a cool environment on the head. This will also prevent the hair from being burned or damaged by the sun’s heat.

Whatever the design, style and color of the hair, one thing is for sure. It grows every day. Hair growth is not the same with everyone. There are people who tend to have longer hair in a small period of time while there are some who take time to make the hair long. This difference is because of many factors like age, genetics, and nutrition. Older people tend to have a slow rate of hair growth because of the decrease in the capability of the body to produce hair. Genetic profile can dictate how one produce hair and how much hair is produced. Nutrition can also play an important role with regards to hair growth. Malnourished people will need to wait for quite some time in order to have a long hair especially those who consume less protein that they usually should. Protein helps the body make hair and inadequacy of this type of nutrition can hinder or slow down hair production.

The hair grows about ½ of an inch per month. If this will be divided into four, an average person will grow 3/26 on an inch every week. This, of course, is not applicable to all because of varying age, genetic profile and nutrition. If you want to be specific, you can actually measure your own average hair length a week. Simply get 10 pieces of hair on your head (specifically on top of your head and make sure that the hair on that part are cut equally) and get the average length. Then after a week, get another 10 pieces of hair on the same area on the head and get the average length of which. Deduct the first average length to the second average length and the remaining will be your average hair growth per week.
