Running can be a great exercise in order to maintain good physical condition of the body. Most of us think that running only involves exercising the legs and the foot; however, this activity is actually considered a full body workout. This is the reason why many health experts and trainers suggest or recommend running as a way to reduce way by burning excess calories in our body. Aside from losing weight, running can also improve the general fitness of the body as well as the stamina and the cardio resistance. However, a lot of people would also like to know; how many calories are burned running a mile?

The amount of calories burned by a particular exercise such as running usually depends on a number of factors. Nevertheless, in general, experts have estimated that at least 100 calories are burned by running a mile. This; however, is subject for changes since there are still a lot of factors or components that we should take into account in determining the exact number of calories burned. One of these factors is our weight. If we weigh more than 150 pounds, then we could expect to burn a few more additional calories while running a mile. Those; however, who weight less than the said measurement can burn fewer than the expected rate of 100 calories/mile. In addition to these, males are also more capable of caloric expenditure in running since they have a higher ratio between lean body mass or muscle mass to fat mass.

In addition to these factors is the routine of the exercise. This means that whenever we do similar routines every day, our body will tend to become more efficient and adapted to the particular activity. Once this happens, fewer calories are expected to burn thus causing slower effects or results. This means that in order for us to maintain the speed of burning calories in our body, it is essential for us to adjust and modify our running activities by changing the terrain and the routes. This introduces a new routine for the body, which causes more calories to be burned.

Speaking or terrains, the setting or the environment of route can also affect the rate of burning calories. It is said that running in the heat produces lesser calorie burning compared to running in cooler climates. Wind can also help in increasing caloric expenditure since it increases the intensity while running. This causes us to exert more effort to push pass the wind thus creating more power in burning calories. Experts have even shared that running using treadmills actually burn approximately 5 calories lesser compared to running outdoors. This is associated to the lack of environmental factors such as wind, heat, rain and a lot more. These are some of the facts and information with regards to the number of calories burned in running a mile.
