How Permanent is Laser Hair Removal?

There are many options now for men who want to get rid of their body hair. However, most of these methods are non-permanent. For example, the most popular method of waxing will relieve you of hair only for a couple of days. In addition, in case, you want to get rid of the regrowth again, you would have to tolerate the pain of waxing again. Those who are in a profession that demands one to have smooth hairless body like modeling or acting need to look for a method by which one can get one’s hair removed permanently.

The only permanent option of removal of hair for men is using lasers. Laser hair removal for men involves the process of damaging hair follicles using lasers. Since lasers recognize only the difference in pigment, this treatment is suitable only for those men that have dark color hair on a relatively light colored skin. When a hair follicle is exposed to lasers, it is either permanently damaged or partially damaged. In case it is permanently damaged, no hair growth is reported from this follicle. However, in case it is only partially damaged, then there would be slow hair growth from this follicle.

In order to ensure that all hair follicles of the area that you want to get hairless get permanently damaged, you would have to get multiple laser treatments. Only after a couple of visit, would your hair removal become permanent.

Another popular method is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal. This involves usage of intense pulsing light to damage the hair follicle. Though IPL treatment is generally promoted as a permanent hair removal technique, in reality, IPL only arrests the growth of hair. It is not a permanent treatment, at least not as much as hair laser removal.

Before going for laser removal of hair, it is important that you know of all its risks and are also aware that the results may vary from person to person. As mentioned above, this treatment is more suitable for those men who have a fair skin and dark hair. Depending on this factor, the results may vary. In addition, since this treatment tends to be almost permanent, it is advisable that you shave off your hair from the area that you want to be treated and see how it looks. Because in case you get a laser treatment for hair removal but later are dissatisfied with the looks and want your hair back, there would be no cure to your problem.
