How to cure migraine headaches

Roughly 20 percent of the American population suffers from migraines. Little is known about the cause of migraines, but studies have shown that certain factors may influence the severity and frequency of migraines. Once your doctor has confirmed you are suffering from migraines, you will probably begin taking various prescriptions. Because migraines vary greatly, there is no known cure. It is been proven that migraines decrease with age, but that does little for those dealing with the pain now. There are several things you can do to reduce the likelihood of getting a migraine. A healthy diet, moderate exercise, and a regular sleep schedule can help. You should also avoid alcohol, smoking, and outside sources of stress. While relaxation techniques can be helpful, you will more than likely rely on some sort of prescription to prevent migraines, and another to deal with the pain when they occur.

When it comes to managing pain, your doctor may choose from a number of painkillers. Digesic in treatment of migraine headaches has had positive results for many. Digesic is an analgesic for mild to moderate pain. It has also been used as a local anesthetic, and to relieve cough symptoms and related conditions. It has recently been prescribed for other conditions, including pain management for cancer patients. It is only available with a prescription, and should be used under caution by anyone with liver or kidney problems. It is a member of the opioid family, and has been compared to methadone. It has the potential to be addictive, so it should not be taken by anyone with a history of chemical dependency. It can be prescribed for short-term or long-term use. Generally, two tablets are taken every four hours, or as needed. Although it was not designed to treat migraines, it has been used as a very potent painkiller.

Painkillers are only part of the medications your doctor may prescribe. There are also preventative and abortive drugs, which can block or stop a migraine. You will also want to consider methods of stress management in order to reduce migraine occurrence. You may also want to consider making changes in your diet and lifestyle.
