Nobody likes Spiders! Spiders are considered to be one of the most feared creatures or creepy crawlies on earth. Unfortunately, spiders are not only seen outdoors since they can also reproduce inside our homes. There are actually thousands of species of spiders. Most of these are seen in forests and other habitats in the wild; however, a number of them also dwell in the dark and cold crannies of our house. Aside from looking very eerie and scary, some spiders are also considered to be poisonous. This is actually one of the major reasons why it is important for us to eliminate or remove these creatures out of our home. They can hide inside our shoes or they can also try crawling up on our beds at night, which is very dangerous. So the question is; what are the ways for us to learn how to get rid of spiders in the house?
Learning More about the Spiders
Most of us think that spiders are insects; however, these multi-legged creatures are classified as arachnids. Nevertheless, having spiders at home can also provide some benefits like pest or insect control. Because of this, it is much better for us to take these spiders out of the house instead of killing them. Below are some of the effective ways in keeping the spiders outdoors.
Effective Ways in Removing Spiders
Catching spiders and releasing them into the wild is a moderately-easy task to do. However, this can be a lot easier if we have the necessary equipment in getting rid of these spiders. These items include work boots, canister vacuum cleaners, garden shears, garden rakes, brooms, pesticides, insecticides (dust or spray), general cleaning supplies, thick gardening gloves, window screens, ladders, caulk and caulking guns, hedge trimmers, garden hoses and attachments, and sodium-vapor or yellow light bulbs. As soon as we have the needed materials, we can now proceed in doing the first step.
In doing the procedure, we must first keep in mind that it is necessary to practice good sanitation for control. So in this case, we must first vacuum and remove all the cob webs in our indoor areas while making sure that any egg cases are taken out completely. It is also important to regularly dust behind furniture, appliances and other objects in order to prevent spiders from making the areas as their home.
Now that we have prevented spiders from making their shelter, we must now eliminate their food sources, which includes cockroaches, moths and as well as flies. Having these insects around will lure the spiders to live inside the house. This is why it is necessary for us to cover all the cracks in the walls and repair all the ruined or ripped screens.
After making sure that the food sources of the spiders are removed or at least reduced, we can now start removing as well all the piles of wood, trash and debris in our house. This can be done by using long protective clothing such as long sleeved shirt, long pants, gloves and protective boots. Removing these things can also aid in preventing a shelter or a habitat for these spiders to live in.
Once the litter and other unnecessary items are already removed from our home, we can now start hosing the outside of our house so as to destroy and webs and egg cases. Water is effective keeping the spiders away from our territory.
Once we are done with the mentioned steps above, the next thing that we need to do is to replace all the outdoor lights with either yellow or sodium vapor light bulbs. These light bulbs are less likely to attract insects and pests, which can also prevent spiders from coming or living in the house.
We can also try using natural deterrents or repellents whenever we see spiders. These items include eucalyptus leaves, baking soda, hedge apples or pieces of the hedge apples (also known as Osage orange), orange oil and pennyroyal on a scrap of cloth. Using these natural and very affordable deterrents can be useful in expelling the spiders away from our home.
It is also necessary for us to shake out our clothing before we try to put them on. Spiders can also hide in between our piled clothes, which is why shaking our garments can help remove the spiders (if there are any) and prevent them from coming in contact with our body or skin. In case we experience spider bites, it is important to seek immediate medical attention since some of the venom or the poison produced from a spider bite is already enough to cause serious complications to the body and as well as death.
These are just some of the effective techniques in order to get rid of the spiders from our home. This article does not suggest killing these creatures instead they should only be taken out of the house and away from our property in order to prevent them from causing any harm.
