Guidelines: how to lose weight

The problem with weight loss in today’s society of liposuction and plastic surgery is that people are all in such a hurry. Everybody wants fast results and the question how to lose weight in a week is becoming more and more popular. People think that they can take a body that has evolved over millions of years and suddenly through our science or cheap tricks change it for the better, or what is perceived as ‘easy way’.

First of all anyone who seeks the easy way on how to lose weight is going to fail, period! Secondly, like all things in nature weight loss is best done slowly. Remember how long it took you to put on the weight. The fat has nerve endings, blood vessels, and chemical processes interlaced and forming part of it. Therefore simply put, if we try to rush our weight loss with some sort of crash diet; the body will do the right thing, interpret it as an attack on itself and take appropriate action. The body will go into fasting mode!

This will consist of lowering the metabolism so that you will end up feeling tired and drained of energy. Then even if you might have lost some weight, it will probably be mostly muscle, the furnaces in which fat is burnt.  You cannot starve yourself for ever without endangering your life; so when you start eating normally again you will put all the weight back on as fat with extra fat added in no time. Therefore, you end up in a worse situation than before.

Losing weight quickly needs a special attention. You must approach this in a patient manner and make sure you do not lose more than 2 pounds of weight a week. Instead of concentrating on eating less, concentrate on what you eat. Eat low glycemic foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables as well as lean proteins such as fish and soya. Lower your intake of red meats, dairy and other foods rich in saturated fat and salt. Also eat smaller meals four to six times a day instead of the bigger three meals a day.

The supplements that should be taken for a healthy diet are a high potency multi-vitamin, 400 to 800 mg of calcium a day, especially if you are a woman, 1000mg of vitamin c a day as an antioxidant to help you with your exercise. You must also maintain omega 3 fatty acids and supplementing them with 1000 to 3000 mg a day of cold-water fish oil capsules. The fatty acid will make your cells more efficient at burning body fat, thin out your blood and protect your heart. You will also want to take 200 mg of chromium picolinate a day with you food to help balance out your blood sugar.

To make sure, if you want to achieve a healthy weight loss, you need to get at least 5-7 hours of exercise a week and do not exceed 90 minutes in one session as this might lead to over training, which is just as bad as not training at all. Find balance in all things and do not go to extremes. One hour before each exercise session, take a free form amino acid supplement suited especially for exercise as well as 500 to 1000 mg of l-carnitine. L-carnitine is an amino acid that acts to help metabolize fat for a fuel source as well as protects the nervous system and helps memory.

The above tips will help you understand what you need to do if you want to lose weight in a healthy way. Whatever you decide to do you should not hurry but go slowly and take steps gradually.
