How to prevent hair loss in women is becoming a lucrative industry. Hair loss in women is not an unusual occurrence in today’s world. In fact, approximately one in four women experience some form of hair loss within their lifetime. Finding a cure or treatment for hair loss in men and in women is a rapidly emerging area of science.

There are some products on the market that boast proven methods about how to prevent hair loss in women, but if the cause is not determined, then prevention can prove to be impossible. Most of what women experience is a thinning of hair as opposed to the eventual baldness that is seen in many men. Most women lose approximately 40-100 hairs per day normally. Abnormal hair loss can be a devastating event for most women and the causes can range from stress to the environment itself.

How to prevent female hair loss lies within some of the causes such as thyroid abnormalities, hormonal imbalances, diet, heredity and even pollution. The most common cause of hair loss in men and in women is formally known as androgenetic alopecia. Over thirty million women are afflicted with this disorder that is passed down from generation to generation. It effects men and women of all races and can originate from the mother or the father. The result is smaller and thinner hairs that eventually fall out. Immune system disorders such as alopecia areata can cause the hair follicles to stop producing hair resulting in bald spots. Significant stress or illness can cause an abrupt thinning of the hair and it is formally known as telogen effluvium.

Some of the methods regarding how to prevent hair loss in men are the same in women. Minoxidil is a common chemical used for hair re-growth in men and is used in women as well. More commonly known by its trade name Rogaine, the recommended concentration for minoxidil is less for women. Studies conducted by dermatologists reported 2 out of 3 women who used minoxidil notice some hair re-growth after an eight month period. Some common side effects include excessive itching and irritation of the scalp. Pregnant women are cautioned against using minoxidil.

For women who do not wish to introduce artificial chemicals into their bodies, there are methods that can display how to prevent hair loss naturally. A healthy diet, regular exercise and techniques to prevent stress are some of them. Others include regular health screenings so that any disorders causing hair loss can be discovered. Vitamin supplements such as biotin have been reported to have positive results in maintaining healthy hair. Omega III supplements found in fish oils have also been found to promote healthy hair. Consulting with a licensed dietician or nutritionist familiar with hair loss issues in women may also prove to be helpful.

Hair loss in women though not uncommon can cause deep anxiety and even depression. However, with today’s diagnostic techniques and treatments, there is new hope available. Support groups exist in several localities that can help women experiencing hair loss as well.
