How to Recover From Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is a condition that affects many people and it can be tricky trying to recover from this type of injury. Being fairly common in runners and other athletes, this condition typically arises when someone begins a new exercise routine or decides to increase the intensity. This symptom also affects individuals who are overweight which can inhibit the recovery because they can’t exercise without it hurting. In this article we’ll show you some tips on how to recover from Plantar Fasciitis.

It starts with how the Plantar Fasciitis came about. If you began to exercise and developed a Plantar Fasciitis running injury then you’ll need to do several things in order to recover. The most important thing is to stop running until you can fully recover from the injury. This can take a while to happen as Plantar Fasciitis symptoms tend to come and go and you may feel great throughout the day only to have the pain comeback first thing in the morning. If you still have the uncontrollable desire to exercise, switch to a low impact sport such as biking or swimming. Staying off of your feet as much as possible is an important factor in recovering from Plantar Fasciitis.

The next thing you’ll need to do is start Plantar Fasciitis treatments. The easiest and simplest thing to do is to develop a regimen of icing and stretching. Keeping ice on the bottom of your foot for 20 minutes at a time will help to keep down the swelling. Stretching the foot will help to maintain the flexibility of the Plantar Fascia. It’s important to do any stretching slowly and evenly. A more advanced treatment would be to use a sock designed for Plantar Fasciitis. This will help keep the Fascia stretched during the night when it’s prone to recoil (which is why it hurts so much in the morning; you’re stretching it back out).

Usually incorporating the above treatments will help to heal the Plantar Fascia over a number of weeks. As it’s often difficult to remain completely inactive, any unnecessary activity will delay recovery. In certain rare instances it’s necessary to have surgery to relieve the pressure from the Fascia but it’s important to discuss this option with a doctor, preferably a podiatrist or sports medicine doctor, to get a professional medical opinion.

With a little bit of persistence and staying off of your feet you’ll be able to recover from Plantar Fasciitis and be back to running in no time.
