Facial redness is sometimes considered blushing. Blushing can be cute since this can show how rosy and vibrant our facial skin looks. However, constant redness of the face is no longer recognized as blushing. In addition to this, facial redness is also very unattractive to look at. This condition is now known medically as rosacea. So the question now is; how to reduce facial redness?
The very first thing that we need to do in order to reduce the redness of our face is by washing it with gentle facial cleansers. Using harsh soaps and other strong facial washes can cause irritation thus lead to facial redness. Some also uses facial scrubs or wash cloths in order to clean the facial skin; however, doing this can only lead to redness. This is the reason why it is advisable for us to use our own clean fingers or hands in swirling the cleanser in our skin order to avoid causing irritation. When drying skin, it is also important to pat it dry rather than wiping it. Using cold cloth on skin for 15 minutes can also effectively reduce facial redness temporarily.
Aside from washing the face properly, it is also helpful for us to reduce the use of skin care products that contain ingredients such as retinol to reduce wrinkles. Retinol can actually cause skin irritation in some people, which can be the cause of facial redness. In case this occurs, it is better for us to stop temporarily the use of retinol containing skin products in order to provide time for the skin to reduce its redness. We can in fact reduce the use of retinol to at least twice a week instead of using it daily in order to prevent facial redness.
We can also try using calming creams on our face. What are calming creams? Calming creams are facial skin applications that contain hydrocortisone. Hydrocortisone is a type of medicine that helps in preventing inflammation thus reducing the risks of having facial redness. Other skin products also contain green hues in order to contrast the redness of the face.
In case the redness is really hard to eliminate, then we can also approach a dermatologists in order to see or check up our skin condition. Some doctors will usually recommend the use of Pulsed Light therapy or otherwise known as photorejuvination. This treatment method is usually used in order to remove hair; however, its broad spectrum light can also be very effective in reducing the facial redness associated with rosacea. However, this can also have side effects such as mild blistering and swelling for at least a couple of days post treatment session. Aside from these things, we can also try using some herbs and foods in order to reduce redness in the skin. These herbs include green tea, fever few, licorice extracts, aloe vera, mint, oatmeal, cucumber and also cold milk. These are just some of the ways or techniques that we could use in order to help lessen the occurrence of facial redness.
