Important Bowel Spasms Symptoms

It is common for us to experience a lot of irregularities and discomforts when it comes to our bowel or gastrointestinal tract. This portion or system of our body is the one that deals with the food that we take in. However, just like any other parts of our body, our bowel is also prone to having abnormalities and disorders. One of these is commonly known as bowel spasms. What are bowel spasms and what are some of the bowel spasms symptoms?

Bowel spasms are otherwise known as muscular contractions in the intestines. These involuntary contractions usually occur without any preceding signs and symptoms. Some lasts for only a short time while there are also some that could last for days. These spasms are considered to be quite painful and very unpleasant. These spasms are actually recognized as symptoms of a particular disease or disorder such as the ulcerative colitis or the irritable bowel syndrome. Nevertheless, bowel spasm could still be felt among individuals with normal digestive system functioning.

It is, however, important for us to know that these spasms are very different from the normal motility of the intestines. Our colon and small intestines do have peristaltic movements in order to help eliminate the waste build up in our GIT. These contractions are considered to be painless, normal and sometimes even undetectable. Spasms on the other hand are described as the abnormal painful contractions of the bowel. These spasms could be very painful that it can already cause physical immobility. These irregular contractions are usually stimulated by nerve impulses. These nerve impulses are then influenced by several factors such as stress, anxiety and nervousness.

Since bowel spasms are generally considered as a symptom of IBS, it is not classified as a disease. In other words, IBS is one of the most common causes of having bowel spasms along with diarrhea, bloating, constipation, abdominal pain and other general symptoms. Factors could also help trigger these symptoms such as food, stress and anxiety. This is the reason why it is important for us to modify our diet in order to make it appropriate with our condition and also do stress eliminating activities to help lessen the chances of experiencing these bowel spasms.

These are just some of the facts that are linked to the bowel spasm symptom. It is indeed necessary for us to learn how to take care of our health, especially our GIT in order to prevent the occurrence of these untoward symptoms and irregularities in the body. As we all know, health is definitely the greatest wealth any man could ever have.
