The increase in the number of hair care products in the market these days signifies the huge demand and need of consumers for beautiful and healthy hair. Hair is always considered one of the most attractive parts of the body. Many people, both men, and women, spend a huge sum just to provide quality and excellent care for their hair. Because of this overwhelming passion for hair treatments, many companies have already developed countless hair products in order to suffice the demand of the public. One of the most commonly used hair shampoos is none other than Pantene Pro V. Pantene Pro V is a very popular shampoo among consumers. Nowadays, this hair product is used by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. However, speculations about its negative effects on the hair have also caught the attention of many users of the shampoo. Some say that Pantene Pro V causes hair damage rather that keeping it healthy and shiny all the time. So is Pantene Pro V bad for your hair?

What is Pantene Pro V?

Pantene is a well-known brand name for hair care products, including shampoos and conditioners. These products are owned by Proctor & Gamble and were first introduced in Europe in the year 1947. This, however, was first owned by Hoffman-LaRoche of Switzerland. Hoffman-LaRoche is a Swiss global healthcare company that operates worldwide, which tagged the name Pantene based on one of its shampoo ingredients called panthenol. By the year 1985, P&G or Proctor & Gamble bought the product as a start of P&G’s battle in the beauty market rather than producing only functional items. As years progressed, Pantene has already developed a number of hair products and one of these is the conditioning shampoo called Pantene Pro V. Pantene Pro V or Pantene Pro-Vitamin became a huge hit in the 80’s and up to now is still considered a favorite among many consumers worldwide.

Is Pantene Pro V harmful to your hair?

Hearing the speculations about Pantene’s ironic effects on the hair has shocked many people, especially its users. Pantene Pro V is actually known for its good and wonderful effects on the hair for the past decades. However, many stylists and some hair experts have stood by the news of Pantene’s harmful effects on the hair. Some of the reasons why Pantene is said to be damaging for the hair is due to is power of striping down the hair’s natural oils. Most of us would think that these natural hair oils do not produce any good for the hair. This is actually true if it is excessive in amount. However, removing all the natural hair oils can also cause negative and harmful effects. This leads to brittleness and can cause dull and frizzy looking hair. So what are the other reasons why Pantene Pro V is said to be bad for the hair?

Pantene Pro V’s Build Up Problem

Another reason why Pantene Pro V is considered harmful for hair use is because of its high possibility of hair build up. What is build up? Build up is defined as the accumulation of chemicals in the hair coming from hair products such as shampoos. Pantene Pro V is made up of many chemicals that it are designed to nourish hair. However, some experts have classified that the chemicals used in Pantene Pro V are a lot harder to remove compared to the chemicals used by other hair shampoos or products. Because of this, chemical retention or accumulation in the hair despite thorough rinsing is still possible with the use of Pantene Pro V. This build up can also lead to the formation of dandruff and other hair and scalp problems. Because of this, Pantene Pro V is not promoted by some stylists to their customers.

Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Despite all these claims and speculations about the harmful effects of Pantene Pro V, there is still no living proof that these things are true. This means that we don’t have to stop the use of Pantene in order to prevent these negative claims. Some other experts still recommend the use of Pantene Pro V since it can still provide the necessary nutrients that hair needs. However, hair experts suggest the constant or regular change of shampoos in order to avoid the scalp from getting used to a particular hair product. Aside from this, regular switching of shampoos can also prevent the possible effects of build-up. It is also advantageous to use clarifying hair products of shampoos in order to get rid of the excess build-up of chemicals. This can be done once or even twice a week. We must likewise understand that hair build-up of chemicals can also be achieved from other brands of hair products and not Pantene Pro V alone.

I continue to be concerned even after reading your article about some of the ingredients used to make Pantene Pro V. Some of these are sodium laureth sulfate, sodium chloride, and cocamidopropyl betaine. I have used Pantene for years believing it to be one of the best shampoos available. Some of the above ingredients may be responsible for my hair loss and itchy scalp. I hope you are able to provide a healthier and safer product, Until then I will not be purchasing Pantene any more
