If you want to learn more about the herb Ashwagandha, then you will want to read this article.  Specifically, we will be discussing what Ashwagandha is and how it can help promote health and general well-being.  After reading this article, you should be able to determine if supplementing with Ashwagandha is a good herbal supplement for you.

Ashwagandha, or Indian Ginseng, grows in India and is commercially cultivated in Madhya Pradesh. It is also now grown commercially in the United States. This plant grows up to 6 feet tall and, like the tomato plant, produces yellow flowers and a red fruit.

Ashwagandha is used in Ayurvedic medicine as an Ayurvedic rasayana or “health promoter”.  It has been used by Ayurvedic medical practitioners for thousands of years and is considered a very important part of Ayurvedic medicine. The benefits come primarily from ashwaganda being high in powerful antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase.

Antioxidants are believed to fight off free radicals in the body.  Oxidation occurs when free radicals go through our bodies, causing damage at a cellular level. Free radicals are thought increase the rate in which we age and contribute to many other diseases in our bodies.  In addition to being high in antioxidants, Ashwagandha works as an adaptogen fighting off stress in our bodies.  By doing so it increases your natural resistance to fatigue, anxiety, trauma and stress.

Reported Ashwagandha benefits include:

  • Promotes longevity
  • Suppresses pain in the body
  • Helps wounds heal faster
  • Improves brain function and mental ability
  • Improves memory
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Increases muscular endurance
  • Battles stress in the body
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Reduces Inflammation

The high level of antioxidants in Ashwagandha make it a good choice for dietary supplementation.  It is available in either a pill or powdered form.  The recommended dosage is 600mg to 1000 mg twice a day.  Why not pick up some today?
