migraineMigraines are incredibly painful and debilitating types of a headache. A migraine headache can stop you cold and in desperate search of pain relief. Over the counter pain relievers rarely do the trick for a migraine. Prescription drugs can work well for many migraines but these have the potential for causing unwanted side effects. For these migraines suffers, home remedies for migraine headache pain relief may be their best option.

One such natural remedy is feverfew, a potent herb known for its pain killing properties. Studies show that feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) is effective in treating migraines, it also has side effects that users need to be aware of.  Common side effects include diarrhea, nervousness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain. This herb can also thin the blood so people with blood disorders or who already take blood thinners, should not use feverfew before talking to their doctor or pharmacist.

Magnesium and 5-HTP are two other natural migraine remedies. Separate studies using 600 mg of 5-HTP and 600 mg of magnesium that have shown both of these natural remedies to be effective in lessening the severity of a migraine and also in preventing migraines.

When you are in the midst of an attack, migraine relief might seem impossible to find. You can experience excruciating pain that completely knocks you out. Symptoms vary from mildly disabling to severe. Migraine symptoms usually start with a throbbing pain, usually on one side of the head and then spreading out. People with migraines often experience nausea and vomiting as well. Oversensitivity to stimuli is another common symptom.

The length of a migraine also varies from a few hours to a number of days. People often have difficulty going to school or work when they are n the middle of a migraine, and can be laid up for days until the pain passes. Treatment health plans for migraine headaches include finding effective relief from the pain and also preventing further migraine attacks.
