Scorbutic gumsGum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, is a condition which affects the structures surrounding and supporting the teeth. There are about 40 million Americans annually that are affected with gum diseases. The damaged teeth and bad breath that accompany gum diseases are not just barriers in achieving high esteem but can also be the reasons for other health problems. With such, it is best to deal with gum diseases the earliest possible. What are the natural remedies gum diseases?

Periodontal diseases do not mean only bad breath but also bad health. A study at the Harvard Medical School Foundation revealed that men with gum diseases have 61% risk of having pancreatic cancer than those who do not have. Another study at the University of Liege in Belgium reported that 91% of their participants who have heart problems have history of periodontal issues. These studies have just shown that there is a relationship between healthy gums and a  healthy body.

There are a lot of reasons why one acquires gum disease. Two of which are poor oral hygiene and frequent intake of sweets and processed foods. Medical treatments for gum diseases include laser therapy, tooth extraction and root planning. These treatments are quite costly so as alternatives, you can try out natural remedies that are not just effective but also less expensive.

Gum massage can do great things. Daily massage your gums for about five minutes twice a day. This helps improve circulation in the gums. If circulation is good, oxygen and nutrients from the blood can easily be transferred to the cells on the gums. You can actually massage your gums while watching television or while taking a break at work. For more effective gum massage, try to crush a few leaves of rosemary and use it while massaging your teeth. Rosemary speeds healing process.

Eat nutritious foods. Avoid sweet and processed foods. Food preservatives have some negative effect on your gums. Supplement your diet with vitamin C and B complex so to maintain the integrity and health of your gums.

Use baking soda twice a day. Baking soda helps whiten the teeth and at the same time freshen the mouth without damaging surrounding tissues. You can actually keep a bottle of baking soda in your bathroom. Damp your brush on it before tooth brushing.

Nothing beats brushing the teeth in the right way. Achieving a clean teeth does not depend on the type of tooth brush you use (whether it is electric or not). The most important thing in brushing is the strokes. Move the brush back and forth in a soft yet swift manner. Avoid pushing the brush down as it can cause the gums to bleed. Target the area where the teeth meet the gums so to remove plaque that can damage both the gums and the teeth.

These are some of the natural remedies that you can try at home so to prevent gum diseases.
