With more people interested in gaining better health, more people are now exercising than ever before. Today, home exercise machines are making it easy for the latter to organize regular workout routines. Among the different options available is the portable treadmill, now an extremely popular machine, because of the ease which it can be used, moved, and stored away after each workout session, and not be in anyone’s way. What makes it different is its portable design which essentially involves a base mat section, fitted to the machine’s forward frame with the help of a hinged mechanism. This permits quick raising and folding of the base section in a way that the upper part of the handlebar meets the back end of the mat.
The portable treadmill is designed primarily for manual operation and comes with a console on its front frame that monitors each of the different exercises. The ‘manual’ mat is described as such, because it will move only with any type of foot movement, for example, when you walk or run on it. In this manner, it delivers optimum control and stability, especially for people with walking difficulties, and even first-timers. The consoles generally feature relevant modes which help users keep visual track of their heart rates, walking or jogging distances, and speeds, while some units also have a mode with which you can count the amount of calories you burn after every workout.
Portable treadmills are, at times, also termed “folding treadmills”, and are made by many different companies, with well-established names like, ‘TrimWalk’, ‘Kettler’ and ‘LifeSpan’. Fifty pounds is the approximate weight of each machine, across the different models, and they will need to be assembled before actual use. One disadvantage though, is that most stationary models are designed for training purposes or professional use. What’s more, their preset inclines, omit the option of raising them which, in turn, decreases the extent of your workouts. On the positive side however, the biggest advantages are the ease with which you can move the machine whenever and to wherever you wish; do your exercises; and get it out of the way after exercising, or when not needed.
