Sedation Dentistry for Chickens

Techniques like sedation dentistry can help us avoid pain and make going to the dentist much more pleasant. If you are anything like me, you really don’t like going to the dentist much.  My experience with dentistry at a young age, included getting backhanded across the face by my dentist because of the fear of pain.  After that experience, I went to huge lengths to avoid ever being in a dental chair again.  It was only much later in life and after spending several thousand dollars on dental work that my teeth are in generally OK shape.  The way to overcome this irrational fear is sedation dentistry.

There are a number of questions you will want to ask when you are thinking about using this technology.  Don’t be confused by terms.  Sedation Dentistry is a comprehensive term that refers to the use of medication to give you a comfortable dental experience.  You may be asked to take medication before treatment and during treatment to maintain your comfort.

Here are good questions on sedation dentistry.

How close is the nearest hospital if there is an emergency
Is the dentist or someone in the office a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation
When it comes to administering sedation drugs, how much experience does the staff have.
How much and how recent was any staff training in sedation dentistry.

There are terms you will want to know to help with your decision.

Anxiety free Dentistry is about simple relaxation. You are relaxed and calm at this level of sedation. Time has no real meaning as the hours go by in what is perceived as minutes because of the effects of the medication.

Sleep Dentistry is a term that once described how a patient felt after their sedation treatment. You don’t really sleep during your visit, but it felt as if you were asleep you could not remember any details of your procedure.  This term, sleep dentistry is not accurate.  You would be more correct to apply a sleep term to a form of general anesthesia.

Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective way to get needed dental work accomplished while controlling fear and trauma.  You get a comfortable, relaxing, and hassle-free dental experience.

You may still have a number of questions about sedation dentistry.

The different levels of sedation are minimal, moderate, and deep sedation. You and your dentist will choose based on what you need.
The sedation you receive at the dentist office generally is in the top two levels.
More work can be done in a single visit since your level of comfort is enhanced.
You get the sedative drugs in potentially three ways. Orally, intravenously, or through inhalation.
Your medical background can be a factor in whether you qualify for sedation dentistry.
The procedure does have a small degree of personal risk to your health.
Check with your insurance company in advance to see if you are covered for sedation dentistry.

Sedation dentistry is a positive experience for those who have real trauma in the dentists chair.  More information is available at sedation dentistry sedation dentistry to help with your decision.  Good oral health is too important to be a lifetime chicken.
