Dental bridges are partial dentures which are used to replace missing teeth. A missing tooth can make your life miserable in many ways. It can adversely affect the functionality and appearance of your face. Various other problems related to missing teeth include speech impediments, temporomandibular disorder, shifting of teeth, tooth decay and risk of periodontal disease. Several types of bridges are used like the resin-bonded bridges, conventional fixed and cantilever types.

The surrounding teeth of the missing tooth have to be shaped before using the cantilever and conventional gold dental bridges. Crowns are placed on the shaped surrounding teeth along with the artificial tooth known as the pontic. If you are using the resin-bonded variety the preparation required is very less. If the gums are healthy and the surrounding teeth do not have much problem then this type of bridge is used. All types of bridges are used only if you have healthy gums.

Once you are ready for the procedure you will be given a local anesthetic for preparing the surrounding teeth for the support. An impression of your teeth will be taken with a putty-like material to create the model of your teeth. A skilled technician fabricates your teeth based on the model. The model should fit perfectly to avoid all kinds of oral and dental problems. You will be fitted with a temporary bridge till the permanent one is ready. Once ready, you have to visit your dentist for a trail and then get it fixed permanently. Follow the recovery procedures and hygiene measures very carefully as advised by your dentist for the bridge to last long.

The bridges are made of various materials that include porcelain, porcelain combined with other precious metal and gold. Gold bridges perform like other types and even better. They are very sturdy – but expensive too. Another thing about gold crowns is that when they become old you can sell them to gold refiners for a price. The greatest advantage of using the bridges is that they can bring back your smile and help you to eat your food properly. Take proper care so that your artificial dentures last long without any problem.
