The dangers of excessive tanning

Some things are so obvious that we do not question them at all. A tanned skin as a symbol of health is one such obvious thing. However recent studies have shown that excessive tanning can lead to sun burn and even to skin cancer in extreme cases. That makes it really important to question habits that we have taken for granted and critically analyze them so as to protect us from any harmful side effects of tanning.

Most of the problem comes from unprotected tanning. It is a good idea to use a tanning bed lotion to accelerate the tanning process so as to minimize the exposure to harmful UV rays. Even among people who use tanning lotions, many make the mistake of settling for the cheapest one available. Please remember  that it is your skin that is under threat and hence always go for the best tanning bed lotion available.

There is a myth among people that indoor tanning or sunless tanning is safe. The confusion stems from a lack of understanding about how these artificial tanning systems work. The bulbs used in theses bed emit lights similar to the sun light and it contains required amount of UV rays. Since the damage to the skin is caused by the UV rays only, the indoor or sunless tanning system is no more safer than tanning in the sun. The only advantage is that the intensity of these lights, unlike that of the sun, is constant. Hence it is easier to calculate a duration for safe tanning.

Many a times the damage to the skin is caused by frequent exposure to tanning. This may not result in cancer, but it can result in permanent damage to the skin and early aging. Please take care to not expose the sensitive parts like the eye and chest of the body to tanning. It is a good idea to go for tanning with clothes and sun glasses on.
