The Symptoms of Tennis Elbow

What is tennis elbow? This is by far the most typical injury that your arm can acquire. It is a type of tendonitis which afflicts mostly tennis players; hence the term tennis elbow. Then again, if you think that only the people who play the sport are the only ones who are prone to acquiring this injury, then you better think again. You see, any job or activity that requires the forceful use of the muscles of the arm can lead to the acquisition of this tendonitis. Certain jobs such as carpentry or even day to day activities like gardening can bring about this arm injury. So, how does one know if he or she indeed has a tennis elbow? Here are some of the tennis elbow symptoms.

Most commonly, you will feel a chronic pain which starts from your elbow joint down to your forearm. You will feel a pulsating and pinching pain on your upper arm to your forearm and on your wrist. Every time you extend or twist your wrist, you will experience that stinging sensation. Extending your elbow or forearm will also be very difficult because of the pain. Each time you perform activities that require the use of your arm will induce that sharp stabbing pain like for instance clenching your fist, gripping on something, shaking hands, opening a door and the like. It is imperative that you treat this pain as early on as possible since the longer you wait the more worst it will get.

Treating this condition may take months or even years depending on the severity of the condition. Many doctors suggest using splints in order to immobilize your forearm or your wrist. Physiotherapeutic massage is also a good tennis elbow treatment. The use of corticosteroid injections are also recommended to help ease the pain. However, the best thing for you to do is to rest your arm and refrain from using it for about a week or so as long as the pain is still present.
