Some Tummy Tuck Costs Basics

A tummy tuck (or as it is often called, an abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic surgery that is being requested more and more often nowadays.  In fact, this surgery is one of the top five cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States.  Therefore, this section is going to highlight some of the basics of this surgery.

Before we begin the discussion, it should be pointed out that this surgery is designed to rid people of their excess abdominal skin.  Therefore, if you are thinking of using this procedure as a way to get rid of fat deposits, this isn’t the right surgery for you.

Now, let’s elaborate on how this procedure is actually carried out.  The surgery will begin after an anesthesiologist administers a general anesthetic, which will render the patient unconscious.  At that point, the surgeon makes an incision in the patient’s lower hip area.  Then the surgeon pulls the skin tight towards the patient’s feet.  After this has been accomplished, the surgeon will then cut off the excess skin.  Finally, the surgeon stitches up the incision and the surgery is complete.

As you can tell from reading this, a tummy tuck is considered a major invasive surgery.  Therefore, if you are considering this procedure, you need to make sure you are fit and healthy.

Additionally, if you are a smoker, you should definitely quit.  While smoking is dangerous to your health, it can also be dangerous to your appearance.  To be more specific, patients who smoke have a much slower healing rate.  Unfortunately, the rate of healing and the prominence of scarring are inversely proportional.  In other words, if you smoke, you will have a greater chance of visible scarring.
