What are the Honeybush Tea Benefits?

Many of us are unaware of what honeybush tea is. Some say that honeybush tea is not just delicious, but is also very beneficial for our health. But what is a honeybush tea? Honeybush tea is a delicately flavored herbal infusion that supports a fruity, tangy and very aromatic taste that are extracted from the flowers and leaves of the cyclopia intermedia shrub. This shrub is commonly seen in the coastal districts or regions of the West and East Cape Provinces of the country of South Africa. This shrub usually grows in mountain or hill peaks, marshy areas, wet slopes and streams. Nowadays, there are already 24 species of honeybush found in the wild wherein only 4 or 5 are widespread or are utilized for home and commercial use. What are the different honeybush tea benefits?

In recent experiments, honeybush tea was found out to have many health benefits. In fact, this South African shrub is used by many for its healing properties. It is named as honeybush since its scent resembles just like honey. This tea is also similar to rooibos tea in terms of flavor and taste. However, honeybush tea is said to be sweeter and decaffeinated. This honeybush tea has already been used by indigenous people and is usually harvested in rough and rugged terrains. This drink is considered to be health and since it contains a lot of minerals such as iron, potassium, copper, zinc, sodium, calcium and manganese, which are very essential in the body. Aside from this, honeybush tea also contains antioxidant properties that can help prevent the possible occurrence of diseases.

How is honeybush tea prepared? Honeybush tea is usually done by mixing 2 tablespoons of dried honeybush herbs into a liter of hot water for at least 20 minutes. Once done, the mixture is usually strained in order to remove the herb particles before it is added with milk and sugar in order to emphasize its flavor. Nevertheless, if we want it to be healthier, then we can choose not to add sugar or milk to the drink. Aside from this, honeybush tea can also be drunk cold with ice and it can also be taken hot.

Some of the other health benefits of honeybush tea include easing insomnia, fighting off constipation and indigestion, enhancing immune system, preventing cancer development, removal of phlegm, stimulation of milk production in lactating women, prevention and healing of minor skin problems, improving weight loss, decreasing blood cholesterol levels, easing menopausal symptoms and treating different types of allergies. This type of tea is also known to treat problems in respiration such as asthma.
