What is the Difference between Conventional Farming VS Organic Farming

Our minds, thoughts and perspectives are already divided by a lot of issues that we are having these days. These issues always offer two or more options with different advantages and disadvantages. Because of this, a lot of us are having a hard time in deciding a mutual decision as to which option is best among the rest. Nowadays, a lot of experts are battling and debating upon the two types of farming namely the conventional type and the organic way of farming. So in order for us to define and underline the major points of this issue as well as the pros and cons of both sides, this article will discuss the difference between conventional farming VS organic farming.

First let us tackle organic farming. What is organic farming? Organic farming is a kind of method in which the agriculturists develop and make cultivated vegetables, dairy products, meat, fruits and grains. This method of farming is said to be ideal in preserving water and soil as well as lessen the pollution that can be brought about by farming. In other words, organic farming is somewhat the opposite of conventional farming since the former does not use any of the methods utilized in conventional farming so as to avoid any of the diseases that it can cause to the livestock. Organic farming is also known to control pests better in fruits and vegetable farming and is also not accustomed to using any of the commercialized fertilizers. It in fact uses only natural composts and organic wastes to serve as plant fertilizers. In short, organic farming makes use only of natural farming methods to avoid any harm in the process.

Because of these, organic farming is now considered very different from conventional farming. This is because conventional farming uses many synthetic chemicals in order to increase the growth of cultivation. This also helps in doubling the size of all the farm products as well as multiplies the number of fruits in the farm. In addition to these, conventional farming also banks or relies on the effects of pesticides and insecticides in order to remove and get rid of the unnecessary weeds and annoying pests. This is very much different from organic farming since the organic way of halting these pests is only through traps and other mechanical devices. These things may not be as effective as the ones used by conventional farming, but this can effectively reduce the risk of harming the products of the farm.

In conventional farming, farmers also make use of antibiotics and growth hormones to their poultry and livestock in order to boost the size as well as prevent any diseases and infections that could potentially harm the animals. On the contrary, organic farming relies more on organic feeds since they contain lesser chemical that can cause untoward side effects to the animals. Organic farmers breed their animals naturally without the use of any drugs.

These are some of the differences between organic farming and conventional farming. Basing on these things alone, we can already see that organic farming relies more on natural methods in agriculture while conventional farming is more on the benefits of science, technology and chemicals in order to come up with a better product. Nevertheless, we are still entitled to our own opinion, which is why it is good for us to think and weigh all the factors on both sides first before we decide.
