Farting is considered a way for the body to remove gas from the GIT or the gastrointestinal tract. This likewise prevents bloating or gas accumulation, which can be very discomforting to have. However, too much farting can also be a discomfort most especially when it happens in public. Nevertheless, farting can be prevented as long as we are aware of the different causes or factors that can increase the incidence of this condition. So why do we fart so much?
Why do People Fart/ Have gas?
When our intestines are filled with too much gas, our body will tend to eliminate them by passing these gases out of the anus. This is simply called farting. Farting can cause great relief especially if we are experiencing bloating or gas accumulation. Having too much gas in the GIT can cause great discomfort and sometimes pain in the abdominal area. However, farting is not a pleasant thing to do especially when surrounded by people. The gas released from our body does have a very unpleasant odor that can be easily noticed by everyone. So how can we lessen farting?
Causes of Farting
In order for us to successfully lessen the incidence of farting, it is important for us to know the possible causes of gas accumulation in our GIT. Here are two of the most common and possible causes:
• Increase Consumption of Allergenic Foods – What are allergenic foods? Allergenic foods are considered to be the type of foods that can cause too much distress to the digestive system. These are otherwise known as irritants that can lead to the occurrence of several untoward side effects, wherein one of these is known to be bloating or gas accumulation. So what are the different examples of allergenic foods? Some of the most common allergenic foods include corn, beans, wheat, soy and of course, dairy or dairy-based products. These are considered allergenic foods since they can cause increase production of gas in the GIT. This is the reason why eliminating or reducing these types of foods in our diet can help lessen gas formation thus decreasing the incidence of farting
• Drinking while Eating – Although most of us drink while we eat, studies have already shown that increased drinking while eating, whether it is water, juice, soda or any alcoholic drinks, can increase gas production in the digestive system. Drinking actually dilutes the stomach acid or the gastric acid that is considered necessary for food breakdown or digestion. This causes the increase in gas production which can also increase farting. Although having something to drink while eating helps flush the food down to the stomach, it is still advisable to reduce drinking while eating. We can still drink water in small gulps in order to flush down the food, but it must not be in large volume.
These are just two of the possible things that can lead to the increase in gas production and farting. However, the number one cause of gas accumulation in the GIT is not produced by any food or activity but rather by an overgrowth of yeast in the bowels. This yeast overgrowth is otherwise known as Candida. This yeast is actually seen in the body among 90% of the population. Although the presence of this yeast in small contents does not cause any major symptoms in the GIT, yeast overgrowth in the digestive system particularly in the intestines can cause gas accumulation, bloating and farting. Candida also becomes a problem or a danger to health once poor diet is being practiced. This poor diet is described to be more on sugar and less in fiber and nutrients. Aside from this, the prolong use of antibiotics and other prescribed or OTC drugs can also increase the chances of yeast overgrowth. Problems in the immune system can also trigger the increase production of Candida through an extended period of severe allergic reactions.
Candida
Candida is something that we should never take lightly or for granted. In fact, studies have shown that cancer also develops in the same way as Candida and more than 95% of people who succumbed to cancer were found out to have a significant growth of Candida in their body. Nevertheless, on a lighter note, Candida can also cause excessive farting through its fermentation. Fermentation is a process that includes the production of gas as its side effects. Once this gas begins to accumulate in the GIT, the body will start to find a way in releasing it which can be done through belching or farting.
Ways to Eliminate Candida and Reduce Farting
In order to lessen or prevent uncontrolled Candida overgrowth in the body, the use of anti fungal medications is recommended. Avoiding foods that can increase the growth of this yeast in the body is also said to be useful. This can be done while using nutritional therapies in boosting the health of the body. These simple things can already be efficient in reducing Candida or preventing its overgrowth in the body. However, it is important for us to know that we can never be fully free from Candida.
These are just some of the facts and details about farting, which includes some of its common causes such as the type of food and the overgrowth of Candida in the body.
